Aston Villa Boss Steve Bruce Bemoans Waste of 'Big Chance' in FA Cup Defeat Against Spurs
"?Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has bemoaned the miss of his side's biggest opportunity in Sunday's FA Cup defeat against Spurs at White Hart Lane.
James Chester and Gabby Agbonlahor were both denied by last ditch blocks from close range, before two Tottenham goals took the game away from the Championship team.
Bruce praised the efforts of his players, but singled out the missed chance as a possible turning point.
"We're a tad disappointed because just as we were getting into the game we had the big chance," he said, quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
"James Chester has a chance and Gabby Agbonlahor in that attack. You're waiting for the big chance and can you take it? But overall I'm pleased with the way they've performed.
"They've done as best as they could. It wasn't quite good enough but as a manager that's all you can ask. Tottenham are excellent, they're a really good side and on a bit of a roll at the minute."
Despite his praise for the performance, Bruce admitted that Spurs' first goal could have been avoided with better defending.
He added: "We're disappointed with the goal because we could maybe stop the cross better.
"It was one of those that wasn't a great cross. It's behind you and he's managed to get a head on it to score the goal. Those are defining moments in a big cup tie, a big game. We had our moments.
"We had chances and that gives you something to hold on to. It wasn't until I opened us up in the last 15 minutes, and let go it became a cup tie. Up until the goal we gave as good as we got."
