Asamoah Gyan scored his 11th goal of the season to help a ten-man Al Ain extend their lead in the Arabian Gulf League with a 2-1 win over rivals Al Jazira in the big derby clash on Sunday.

The Black Stars captain who was being cheered on in the stands by the son of Ghana’s President Sharaf Mahama punished the slacking Al Jazira defence with a nice curling effort to extend the Boss’ lead after Omar Abdulrahaman had opened the scoring after 17 minutes.

Al Ain came into the game wielding a three-point lead over their Abu Dhabi rivals in their bid to reclaim their domestic title.

They pretty much wrapped up the win in the first half with Abdulrahman and Gyan combining to give the hosts a commanding two-goal lead.

Manuel Lanzini pulled one back for Al Jazira on the stroke of halftime but eventually proved to be only a consolation.

Al Ain were reduced to 10-men with three minutes left to play with the sending off of Mohanad Salem for a second bookable offence.

Zlatko Dalic’s side however held on to the precious win which now takes them six points clear at the top of the Arabian Gulf League with nine games left to play.
