Leicester City have handed their Ghana star Jeff Schlupp a new contract to fend off potential interest from English Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Foxes are in talks with the Ghana ace over an improved deal after he starred for them in his first Premier League campaign.

Versatile Schlupp, 22, netted four goals and was named Young Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year in their end-of-term awards.

The wide player's displays in their great escape have caught the eye of the Gunners, who are weighing up a £5m offer.

However, Foxes boss Nigel Pearson sees Schlupp as a key part of his long-term plans and is determined to keep hold of one of his crown jewels.

Schlupp himself already signed a three-year contract last July, but Leicester hope the offer of fresh terms will convince him his long-term future is at the King Power Stadium.

Pearson is eager to strengthen his own squad after finishing last season with a flourish.

Stoke's Robert Huth, who impressed while on loan with the Foxes, and Mainz's Shinji Okazaki are at the top of his shopping list.
