Appiah double guides Italy into Women’s U20 World Cup last four

Italy secured a place in the Women’s U20 World Cup semi-finals by beating South Korea 3-1 in a match they controlled after the interval.

The sides went into half-time level at 1-1. Appiah opened the scoring for Italy in the 16th minute, before Lee Hae-Un restored parity for South Korea two minutes before the break.

Italy regained the lead just three minutes into the second half when K. Appiah struck for a second time, converting P. Fadda’s assist to make it 2-1 in the 48th minute.

The Squadra Azzurra then put the result beyond doubt in the 63rd minute. Fadda completed the scoring after being set up by Cherubini, giving Italy a two-goal advantage.

Italy’s dominance was reflected in their 58% share of possession as they secured their progress to the last four.

They will face the winner of the quarter-final between Brazil and Spain in the semi-finals.
