Ghana winger Frank Acheampong has urged Ghanaians to throw their support behind the team ahead of the AFCON to ensure success in Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars will be seeking to win their first major continental title since 1982 when the tournament starts on 17 January.

There is a lot of disaffection for the team following a disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil which was marred by a bonus row.

But Acheampong insists the team can bounce back if they receive massive support from fans.

“Like the coach always says we have to be mentally up for every game,” Acheampong said.

“We are a good enough team to win the AFCON but we will need the support of everybody to do that.

“We will continue to work hard to bring joy to the nation.”

Acheampong is a sure bet to make Ghana’s final squad for the tournament.
