Anderlecht defender Ali Maamar attracts interest from Lyon and Porto

Olympique Lyonnais are monitoring Anderlecht right-back Ali Maamar after being impressed by the young defender during the clubs’ Europa League meetings.

The 21-year-old Morocco international has gradually established himself with the Belgian side, and his performances have caught the attention of Lyon’s recruitment team. According to Actu Foot Maroc, the French club are considering making an approach during the next transfer window.

Africafoot previously reported that Lyon had already identified Maamar as a potential target earlier this summer. The defender’s progress is now being followed closely as the club assess whether to make a move.

Lyon are not alone in showing an interest. Several English clubs are also understood to have made enquiries about Maamar’s situation, increasing the competition for a player regarded as one of Anderlecht’s most promising young prospects.

According to exclusive information obtained by Africafoot, FC Porto have now joined the group of European clubs interested in signing the right-back.

Maamar is under contract with Anderlecht until June 2028. His current market value is estimated at €2.5m by Transfermarkt, although that figure could rise if interest in the Morocco international continues to grow.

Maamar’s emergence comes as Morocco prepare to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Gabon.
