Fabian Ruiz’s unjust dismissal for Napoli against AC Milan on Saturday subsequently saw coach Carlo Ancelotti given his marching orders for the language he used in response.

Ancelotti, though, insists he didn’t say anything offensive to anyone and merely swore in frustration at the situation.

“I let a curse slip,” he admitted, “but I thought the expulsion was unfair.

“I haven’t offended anyone, a word just escaped.”

The Napoli boss surprised many with his starting XI, particularly with his decision to leave out Alex Meret and start David Ospina in goal.

“The decision was made because Meret trained very little this week,” he revealed.

“He has had muscular problems and it would have been a risk to play him.

“Maybe he will be able to play on Tuesday.”

Returning to the Stadio San Siro, where he enjoyed so much success as Milan boss, Ancelotti was warmly received by the Rossoneri supporters before the game.

“It was exciting for me.

“It was a beautiful atmosphere and they respected [Kalidou] Koulibaly.”
