Nigeria U-20 men's national football team coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has posited that he is yet to come to terms with the reality that Flying Eagles will not be participating in next year's CAF U-20 Nations Cup in Zambia following Saturday's 3-4 defeat in the final qualification match return leg tie in Lagos.

Amuneke told our team yesterday that it was only God who knows and can explain what really went wrong.

"Right from the beginning of this journey, we handed everything to God, and He has led us to this stage," starts the former Barcelona winger in a most emotional tone.

"But whatever went wrong on Sunday is what I cannot understand or explain.

"I've tried since after the match till now to figure out what went wrong, but I've not been able to.

"This is a sad moment for me, a sad moment for the team and a sad moment for Nigerian football.

"I'm more saddened for the players, those who supported me and the team, as well as Nigerians.

"We had looked forward to qualifying for the tournament in Zambia, at least we already had one leg in Zambia after the first leg.

"But now that dream has become a mirage and I'm sad about it that we've disappointed Nigerians.

"I apologise to all Nigerians about what has happened because, like I said earlier, only God can tell what went wrong because before now, He had supported the team and led us to this stage,"Amuneke lamented painfully on Sunday. credit: completesportsnigeria
