Ampem Darkoa Protest Edo Queens’ WAFU B Champions League Qualification
Ghanaian club Ampem Darkoa Ladies have officially challenged the outcome of their WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying final against Edo Queens, questioning the decision to go straight to penalties after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Edo Queens eventually prevailed in the shootout to claim the WAFU Zone B title and secure qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
However, Ampem Darkoa have lodged a formal protest with WAFU Zone B and CAF, insisting that the competition rules required the final to go into 30 minutes of extra time before a penalty shootout could be used to determine the winner.
According to the Ghanaian side, participating teams were informed during the Management Committee meeting that a final level after 90 minutes would be followed by two 15-minute periods of extra time.
Ampem Darkoa alleged that the match coordinator instead instructed the teams to proceed directly to penalties after the 2-2 draw, claiming that no prior communication was made to them about a change to the procedure.
The club also stated that four substitutes were prepared to enter the match before the decision was taken to move straight into the shootout.
In a statement dated September 11, 2026, Ampem Darkoa said: “Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC have followed the competition’s regulations and done a protest to WAFU Zone B and CAF.”
The Ghanaian club maintained that the decision was inconsistent with what had been communicated at the Management Committee meeting and what it believes is contained in the CAF Women’s Champions League regulations.
Ampem Darkoa are consequently asking the football authorities to either order the two teams to play the stipulated extra time or allow the final to resume from the point where the penalty shootout was initiated.
The club also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Football Association for its support and said it would now await the decision of CAF and the WAFU Zone B Secretariat.
The outcome of the protest could determine whether Edo Queens’ victory remains officially intact or whether the governing bodies will order further action over the alleged breach of the competition regulations.
