Bayer Leverkusen head coach, Xabi Alonso has revealed he's making a concerted effort to ensure Victor Boniface remains focused on football, despite the Nigerian forward's jovial personality, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Boniface, 23, impressed last season with 14 goals and nine assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances, cementing his status as a key player for Die Werkself.

However, Alonso acknowledges the Super Eagles star's light-hearted nature can sometimes distract from the task at hand.

"All the teammates really like him, the guy creates a great atmosphere," Alonso told Efotbal.

"Sometimes you have to force him to focus only on football, but that's my job, that's what I'm trying to do."

Alonso's comments highlight the balancing act required to manage Boniface's effervescent personality while maintaining the team's focus on achieving their objectives.

As Bayer Leverkusen seeks to build on last season's success, Alonso will continue to work closely with Boniface to ensure the Nigerian's talents are channeled towards the team's goals.
