Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has sent words of consolation to Morocco’s Brahim Diaz following AFCON 2025, while also congratulating champions Senegal on their triumph. NigeriaSoccernet.com writes.

The 29-year-old Iwobi was one of Nigeria's standout performers in Morocco, making over 60 line-breaking passes across six games for Eric Chelle’s men, the highest of any player in the tournament. Diaz, who starred for Morocco, scored five goals on the hosts’ run to the final against Pape Thiaw’s Senegal.

The AFCON semi-final between Morocco and Senegal ended in drama. A controversial VAR-reviewed penalty awarded to Morocco saw Senegal initially protest and consider walking off the pitch. Ultimately, the game continued, with Diaz stepping up for a Panenka attempt that was saved by Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. Senegal then secured victory with Pape Sarr’s extra-time strike, leaving Diaz heartbroken.

Iwobi, who also scored in Nigeria’s third-place victory over Egypt, spoke on his AFCON Diaries series, offering encouragement to the Moroccan winger.

“Shout out to Senegal, they deserved the win, AFCON was memorable, it's an honour to represent my country, amazing to get the bronze,” Iwobi said.

“Shout out to Brahim Diaz as well, of course, he'll be going through a lot right now. I mean, to take the penalty the way he did, if he scored, he would've been a hero; it's just the fact that he didn't. Please, allow him, it's football, but my message to him is what's done is done. He's had a good tournament. Do your thing in your club. Obviously, it's hard to forget these moments; there's always another opportunity.”

Sadio Mane was named AFCON 2025 Player of the Tournament, while Brahim Diaz claimed the Golden Boot.
