Albert Bruce: Ghanaian midfielder reveals relief at escaping relegation with Naxxar Lions in Malta
Ghanaian midfielder Albert Bruce was the calmest man on the pitch as Naxxar Lions retained their Premier League status after defeating rivals Mosta 2-1 in the Maltese League.
Needing a point from their final-day derby against Mosta to hold on to their top-flight status, the Lions roared loud as two second-half goals from Terence Vella and Gilmar earned them a merited 2-1 victory that jeopardised their bitter rivals’ chances of staying in the elite division.
The defeat left Mosta still in danger of losing their place in the top-flight with the Blues to face Division One side Gzira United in the decider next Friday.
And the Ghanaian midfielder felt relief after returning to the side to help them escape the relegation play-off.
“It’s a big relief for the team and we’re delighted we managed to escape relegation,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com
“It was difficult game and to come away from our rivals and record this important win is exciting.
“I’m just happy to have played a part in our survival. I’m just excited for the fans who have been so supportive.”
Bruce has now ended his short loan deal with the club.
