Akwa United are busy ahead of the resumption of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League season set to start on Sunday, the 8th of January.

The club's defender Denis Nya has completed his move to Zambian Club, Zesco United FC. Nya signed a two year contract with Zambian Giant Zesco United.

The rock-solid defender was part of Emmanuel Amunike's squad that won the U-17 FIFA WC in Chile (2015) and he had since played for Lobi Stars and Plateau Utd.

Meanwhile, the Promise Keepers have also officially announced the return of veteran striker, Ndifreke Effiong after he was registered for the new season.

The club also made known that two players from the youth have been registered ahead of the new season to be part of the senior team.

U-15 Captain and left back Nsikan Alloysius with goalkeeper Covenant Bassey have been promoted to the club’s first team.

Nsikan has been assigned jersey number 38 while Covenant will wear jersey number 40

Besides, following his retirement, club legend Orok Akarandut is now part of Akwa United's backroom staff.
