After Being Stranded at Istanbul Airport for 24 Hours, Falconets Arrive in Nigeria From Costa Rica
Falconets arrived in Nigeria on Thursday, having left Costa Rica on Monday after crashing out of the U20 Women’s World Cup The Nigerian ladies were pictured sleeping on the floor and chairs at the Istanbul Airport in Turkey They were stranded for about 24 hours however the ladies finally landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja
And they were received by the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohamed Sanusi and A Minister of Youth and Sports representative, Toyin Ibitoye, was also on hand to welcome the ladies who were earlier stranded at the Istanbul Airport in Turkey.
They arrived in Nigeria on Thursday, having left Costa Rica on Monday after crashing out of the U20 Women’s World Cup.
The ladies took part in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica and crashed out of the tournament in the quarterfinal stage.
They departed the North American side on Monday, only for them to be pictured sleeping at the Istanbul Airport on Wednesday Morning.
The Nigeria Football Federation has claimed that FIFA booked the Falconets’ ticket back to their home country after they crashed out of the U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. Falconets were stranded in Turkey as they were made to sleep on the floor and chairs at the airport, days after crashing out of the global showpiece.
And on Thursday morning, it was confirmed that the ladies arrived in Nigeria and were received by officials of the NFF and the Sports Ministry.
The Falconets were eliminated in the quarterfinals at Costa Rica 2022 after going down to a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands.
In the competition, Chris Danjuma’s side won all their group games against France, South Korea and Canada.
