African talent dominates Ligue 2 scoring charts after seven rounds

Yaya Fofana, Pape Moussa Fall and Augustine Boakye are all among the five leading scorers in Ligue 2 after seven matches, underlining the growing influence of African players in the French second tier.

The trio represents three different nations and offers contrasting attacking profiles. Ivory Coast midfielder Fofana leads the standings with six goals for Stade de Reims, while Senegal striker Fall has scored five for FC Metz. Ghanaian midfielder Boakye completes the African presence in the top five with four goals for AS Saint-Etienne.

Fofana setting the pace

At 22, Fofana has made the strongest start of the three. His six goals in seven games have moved him to the top of the division’s scoring list, despite the fact that he does not play as a conventional centre-forward.

The Stade de Reims midfielder has combined his ability to arrive in the box with energetic play between the lines and a well-developed sense of timing. His contribution in the final third has added another dimension to his game and made him one of the players attracting close attention this season.

Fofana is under contract with Reims until 30 June 2029. His market value is estimated at €1.5m and could rise if he maintains his current level of performance.

Fall continues to deliver for Metz

Fall is one goal behind Fofana after scoring five times in his first seven league appearances. The 22-year-old has quickly established himself as a reliable attacking outlet for FC Metz.

His positioning inside the penalty area, anticipation and composure when chances arise have allowed him to trouble opposing defences consistently. Those qualities have helped him demonstrate considerable maturity in his role despite his age.

Fall’s contract runs until 30 June 2029, while his market value is estimated at €3.5m. His strong start has made him an important part of Metz’s project and could help him take another step forward during the season.

Boakye adds experience to African trio

Boakye, the oldest of the three players at 25, has scored four goals for AS Saint-Etienne. The Ghanaian midfielder brings greater experience than Fofana and Fall and has provided an additional attacking option for the club.

His ability to support forward moves from midfield has enabled him to make a significant contribution in the final third. Boakye is contracted to AS Saint-Etienne until 30 June 2028, a sign of the trust placed in him.

With an estimated market value of €6m, he is the most highly valued of the three African players in the scoring list.
