Nigeria's Flying Eagles have been beaten in their first match of the football event of the 2023 African Games going on in Ghana on Thursday, Nigeriasoccernet.com, reports.

The Nigeria U-20 boys lost 2-1 to the Hippos at the Accra Sports Stadium. in their first group B match of the competition.

Usama Arafat opened score for Uganda on 34 minute before Sodiq Isiyaka restored parity for Nigeria 4 minutes later after heading home a corner kick as the first half ended 1-1.

However, Ivan Irinimbabazi's goal 9 minutes from time sealed the win for the East Africans.

Nigeria have South Sudan and Senegal to play in the remaining games in Group B. They play South Sudan on Monday.
