AFCON23 UPDATE: Mikel speaks confidently of Supers Eagles ahead of the mundial
Ex-captain of Nigeria, John Mike Obi, is of the opinion that the Super Eagles should be considered as strong contenders for victory in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The three time African Champions have been drawn in Group A with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
Despite the disappointing outing of the Super Eagles at the last tournament Mikel is confidence the team will challenge for the prestigious title.
“We are always favourites, this is every time we go into the tournament and it’s no different this time,” the former Chelsea midfielder told CAFonline.
“Everyone knows that we are one of the favourites – not the massive favourite but definitely one of the favourites.”
The West Africans will kick-off their campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan.
