Following their hardfought 3-2 win over South Africa in their final group game of the 2023 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations, the Golden Eaglets will now face Burkina Faso in the quarterfinal for a place in the semifinal as well as the World Cup ticket, reports, Nigeriasoccernet.com.

This was confirmed after Burkina Faso scored two goals in two minutes, coming from behind to beat defending champions Cameroon 2-1 and dump them out of the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The victory in Annaba on Sunday evening meant the Burkinabe finish second in the group C with three points while Cameroon finish bottom after back to back losses.

Cameroon had gone ahead through Dorinel Yondjo, but a pair of identical goals from Souleymane Alio, separated by two minutes and nine seconds, made the difference for Burkina Faso.

Nigeria, group B runners-up had won their first match 1-0 against Zambia before losing same margin to Morocco in their second match. Nigeria came from behind twice to outscore South Africa 3-2 in their last group game to book the quarter-final ticket.

The winner between Nigeria and Burkina Faso in the May 11 fixture will pick one of the four tickets available for the FIFAU17 World Cup.
