Super Eagles center-back, William Troost-Ekong is most likely to be unavailable when Nigeria take on Guinea for a ticket at the 2024 African Cup of Nations, Nigeriasoccernet.comreports.

The Salernitana defender was earlier suspected to be close to resuming action after sustaining during a league match at Verona in mid-February.

However, Salerno Notizie, an Italian news website revealed the defender is expected to return to competitive action after the international break at the end of March even though he has resumed training.

The injury update means the Super Eagles vice-captain is a major doubt for Nigeria’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying doubleheader against Guinea-Bissau on March 22nd and 28th.

Ekong has been a regular starter in the national team since his debut in 2015. The former Watford defender has made 66 appearances for the Nigeria senior team, 61 of which he was in the starting lineup.
