In the wake of a lackluster 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea's Nzalang Nacional in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener, Super Eagles defender,  William Troost-Ekong, is appealing  to soccer-loving Nigerians for unwavering support, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The upcoming crucial match against Cote d'Ivoire is vital for Jose Peseiro's side, necessitating a victory to enhance their prospects of advancing to the next round.

Despite the disappointing start, Troost-Ekong emphasizes the importance of staying positive, expressing gratitude for the fan support and promising a motivated effort on Thursday.

“I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” said the Super Eagles vice-captain.

” Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.

“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us.”

The clash is scheduled for 5 pm at the Alassane Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
