Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has defended Coach Avram Grant’s decision to play with a back line of three defenders in the going Africa cup of nations.
Pressure is beginning to mount on newly appointed coach Avram Grant after a disappointing performance in the group Ghana’s opener against Senegal.
The former Chelsea boss has introduced a new playing system which came under massive scrutiny following Ghana’s capitulation in the second half of the game.
But Mensah says their retreat in the second half had nothing to do with the new system.
”We were comfortable playing that formation and we will do our best in the next game. We will do anything that the coach wants us to do on the pitch. The best defenders are here to play for the team and if you are here then it means you are good enough to also compete for the nation,” Mensah told the media in Equatorial Guinea
“We are all comfortable with the system and we are focused on making it a success.”
The Black Stars will take on Algeria on Friday at the Estadio de Mongomo in a game they cannot afford to lose.
