AFCON 2015: Ghana coach Avram Grants strongly defends under-siege striker Jordan Ayew
Ghana coach Avram Grant has mounted a spirited defence of his under-attack striker Jordan Ayew urging critics to support the youngster insisting that supporters must not insult the Lorient player for his dedicated services to the country.
The experienced Israeli manager bemoaned and slammed the culture of insulting players by the Ghanaian media and supporters when players have difficult time in matches for the country.
Ayew has been on the chopping board right from the start of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as his critics continuously called for his exclusion from the starting XI.
Grant believes the youngster will be very helpful to the Black Stars in future despite the insults directed at the son of legend for his performances at the ongoing 2105 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
“It was first Kwesi Appiah, and later John Boye and many other players. The players are giving everything for the country. They are fighting; they are doing everything to be successful,” Grant said.
“The players are giving everything for the country. They are fighting. People can speak about his (Jordan Ayew) mistakes; it’s not a problem, but they need to respect them,” the Ghana coach Grant said.
“They need to respect them but not to hang them after every bad game. That is not right. I don’t accept it.
“It’s not good that after every bad game they want to give up on a player because it’s not right.
“Jordan Ayew is a very good player, he has given a lot to the national team in the past and I am sure he will continue to do that in the near future.” he added.
Ayew was dropped from Ghana's starting team in their match against Guinea but only came after the media and a section of the public called for his axing.

Big shame to Jordan ayew! He should bury his head in shame for his useless, selfish play! This kid needs to learn one or two things from akwasi appiah, who doesn't play for glory but for the team! Just take a look at akwasi appiah and u ll that, he doesn't go for glory but plays for the team! See his attacking instincts as well as his pressing games not forgetting his defensive duties when he loses the ball is second to none!! We have already started time and again, that, some of the ghanaian kids coming thru are more serious and want to make an impact and it wldnt be long when Jordan is relegated to the dustbin of football history if he doesn't change his selfish play!!! We keeping on saying he is young but how old was messi when he started making waves in nou camp? Football is a game for the youth since I have never seen a 70 yrs old playing prifessional football and the time is now for jordan to set up to the plate!!! A word to the wise is enough!

Good observation, self made. Appiah is selfless , looking for chances irrespective of who gets the glory. The current squad is beginning to realize that. Team Work, period.

Get out kweku, the guy is not playing well why don't u have eyes? I love that guy but he is being selfish and apart from that he work rate is low. Have you seen anyone criticized Dede? Even though this is not my Dede I know but his work rate is helping the team. So plz allow selfmade to make his judgment if you don't have anything to say.

Jordan is talented, no doubt about this. But instead of playing he likes to enjoy himself on the pitch. He needs to be aware that Talent does not make one a success! Well done to mubarak Wakaso and Defe Ayew.

Selfmade is right. But let's correct the kid IN LOVE...that's what Grant is saying. HELLO JORDAN: you are skillful,talented and can do anything you like when you have the, no doubt about that! Not everyone was born like you. Some footballers were born to LEARN the skill but yours is a talent. But all we are saying is: 1) your work rate is low,you need to FIGHT always, especially when you lose the ball. 2) Be AGGRESSIVE or WILD, cos you seem a bit dull on the ball....you need to be strong on the ball cos you have the structure/physique,you are strong,you have pace (even more than Gyan!!!)...you need to score with FORCE! Defenders will not be cool with you cos you are skillful and they know you can dribble them,hands down. You need to be a little fearful to them. 3) TEAMWORK: I think you are already doing it but we think you need more. Your ball control is great,and so use that as an advantage to create chances / assists for your partners...you can dribble to attrack defenders and give accurate passes,neat and wise. Jordan,you are great and we love you,know that! We love you but I know sometimes the way we talk is not good. But you need to learn how to take corrections cos it is going to make you shine.
