GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively report that Algeria will decide today whether striker Islam Slimani should be fielded against Ghana on Friday in their Group C match.

Head coach Christian Gourcuff and team doctor Ali Yekdah will meet after training to take a decision, Ghana’s leading football website can confirm.

This is the second major concern for Algeria after key defender Rafik Halliche was rushed to a hospital in their Equatorial Guinea base of Mongomo on Wednesday night because of the persistent and painful calf problem.

Slimani suffered a serious knee injury during their opening 3-1 win against South Africa last Monday.

The Sporting Lisbon player left the Mongomo Stadium with his knee bandaged on leaving the stage Mongomo.

He has missed two training sessions of the Dessert Foxes and remains a huge doubt.

Slimani’s injury is a major concern for the medical and technical teams since the player is regarded as key to their title-winning campaign.

Algeria won their first match but want to field their strongest squad to book early qualification to the quarter-final.
