Pyongyang: Hong Kong and Laos maintained their push to reach the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship on Friday thanks to a 1-1 draw which leaves both sides still eyeing automatic qualification.

With only the group winners assured of a spot at next year’s continental gathering in China, the result leaves Laos top of Group G with four points, while Hong Kong go second with two points – one ahead of DPR Korea who do, however, have a game in hand.

After a goalless first half, the game sprang to left when striker Armisay Kettavong pounced to put Laos, 3-1 conquerors of Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, ahead in the 73rd minute.

Hong Kong were not to be outdone however, Jordan Lam levelling matters just two minutes later to ensure a vital share of the spoils for the East Asians.

Laos and Hong Kong will play DPR Korea and Cambodia respectively in their final group games on Sunday.
