AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Qualifiers Group J: Japan cruise into Finals
Bekasi: Japan advanced into the AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Malaysia in style, ending their qualifying campaign with a 4-0 win over Malaysia at the Wibawa Mukti Stadium in Bekasi, Indonesia on Sunday.
The impressive Japanese team scored a whopping 35 goals in their three matches and will be among the favourites for the Finals next year.
Malaysia, already through as hosts, were keen to test themselves against Japan but despite giving it a go, had to concede to the superiority of their opponents.
Japan, who opened their Group J campaign with a 20-0 win over Guam, took 23 minutes to find the back of the net against Malaysia with Yuji Yoshida the scorer.
Keita Ueda made it 2-0 just four minutes later, leaving Malaysia - who had beaten Singapore (6-1) and Guam (14-1) in their first two matches - with a mountain to climb.
Keita Nakano made it even tougher for Malaysia coach Lim Teong Kim's players as he widened Japan's lead just four minutes into the restart.
Yusuke Aoki then made it 4-0 and Japan can start plotting their campaign for the Finals while Malaysia are sure to use the experience to improve ahead of hosting the tournament next year.
