AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Qualifiers Group I: Cambodia 0-5 Australia
Ulaanbaatar: Australia remain firmly on course for a place in the AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Malaysia final stage after beating Cambodia 5-0 in a Group I qualifying tie on Friday.
Having opened their campaign with a 10-1 win over host nation Mongolia on Wednesday, Australia settled quickly against Cambodia at the Mongolia Football Federation Football Centre.
On the other hand, Cambodia had to win to keep their hopes alive after suffering a 5-2 defeat to Vietnam on Matchday One.
Australia dominated ball possession and controlled the game from get-go, but their long range efforts weren't fruitful.
Australian midfielder Luke Duzel came close in the third minute, but his shot from outside the box hit the left post.
After the break, Australia continued to push forward and Cambodia conceded a penalty in the 73rd minute. Birkan Kirdar converted.
Australia didn’t look back and captain Tyson Savas, who scored five goals against Mongolia, found the net in the 83rd minute.
Towards the final 10 minutes, Noah Botic (86th), Kirdar (90th) and substitute Cameron Peupion (90+3) found the back of the net to complete proceedings.
Mongolia play Vietnam later on Friday.
