AC Milan's manager, Stefano Pioli, has shed light on his decision to field Samuel Chukwueze in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Fiorentina, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Despite a challenging start at San Siro since his move from Villarreal, the 24-year-old found himself in Milan’s starting XI.

Pioli commended the Nigerian winger for his recent adaptability, stating, "Chukwueze was working well. He had a bit of difficulty fitting in initially, but he’s fine, he’s a quality player."

Explaining the unexpected move, Pioli revealed, "I spoke to Christian yesterday, he hadn’t fully recovered yet and he told me that he preferred to play a part of the match."

Chukwueze, who has scored one goal and provided one assist in 18 league appearances for the Rossoneri, earned praise from his manager for his performance.

Pending Inter Milan’s result against Empoli on Monday, AC Milan are 11 points behind their city rival who sit pretty first on the league table.
