Defender Abeiku Ainooson says his love for Asante Kotoko prevented him from leaving to join a club abroad.

The 25-year-old was one of the leading performers in the Premier League prior to the just ended campaign.

Ainooson swept almost all the top awards in the league following his impressive debut season with Kotoko when he first arrived from New Edubiase in 2013.

The home-based Black Stars defender is surprisingly still with Asante Kotoko despite reported offers from clubs abroad.

Locally-based players are often quick to jump at opportunities to move to a foreign club due to projected positive impact on their living conditions.

But Ainooson claims he has refused to be attracted to such offers due to his profound love for the club.

"I know people are surprised that a player who has been named Best Defender in the league is still playing in Ghana,” he said.

"But I love Kotoko and I believe my interest will be best served playing here.

"I have people like coach David Duncan to also guide me. I think for now I am happy here [at Kotoko]."
