Sheffield United have paid a club record transfer fee for Preston North End's Republic of Ireland international Callum Robinson.

The 24-year-old has penned a four-year deal with the Blades, who have also snapped up Luke Freeman and Phil Jagielka since securing promotion from the Championship.

United manager Chris Wilder is thrilled with his latest capture, saying: "Callum fits into our structure perfectly as we look to Championship players who we feel can be successful at Premier League level.

"Callum is someone who was on our radar a number of years ago and he has progressed how we thought he would and hopefully there is plenty more to come.

"I feel Callum is a great age and what we have paid represents great value in the current market."

Robinson came through Aston Villa's youth system but, after spending a loan period at Preston, he completed a permanent transfer to Deepdale three years ago.

He went on to score 29 goals in 88 starts for the club, including 13 in 36 appearances last season.

Robinson was not involved in the Blades side that beat Real Betis in a friendly on Friday, David McGoldrick scoring the only goal of the encounter in the second half.

Sheffield United are 4/6 to be relegated in the 2019/20 campaign and 14/5 to win their first game of the season at Bournemouth on 10th August.
