Victor Boniface is set to miss Werder Bremen's final home game of the year against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday with the Nigerian striker who was not selected for AFCON sidelined with a knee contusion as revealed by head coach Horst Steffen in his pre match press conference, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

"It happened in a challenge, knee to knee, and it really hurt," Steffen explained regarding his striker's injury. "Unfortunately, the recovery hasn't been as quick as we'd hoped. I can't yet say whether he'll be available for us again this year."

Not just Boniface, his compatriot Felix Agu ( injury to the syndesmosis ligament ) will not be available as he continues recuperation from surgery.

Horst clarified further on expected Agu's return saying;

"We can't predict when they'll be permanently involved. It will probably be a bit sooner for Max, but we can only assess that once they start training and see how they handle the workload."

The injury adds to Boniface concerns since joining on loan from Leverkusen as he battles fitness issues and an AFCON disappointment.
