Colombia claimed the inaugural Women's Amputee World Cup on Sunday, defeating the USA in a penalty shootout on home turf in Barranquilla, Colombia.
The game at the Romelio Martinez Stadium finished 1-1 after the U.S. took the lead in the 11th minute, only to be pegged back in the closing stages as Jennifer Coronado scored.
Colombia goalkeeper Emily Clavel proved to be the hero, saving three spot kicks to earn her side the title.
The South American side had won each of their five games leading into the final, with the USA's goal in the final the only time Clavel's net was breached in the entire tournament.
The Americans beat England and Poland en route to the final and will consider themselves unlucky to have fallen at the final hurdle.
