Christantus Uche marked his first start at Selhurst Park in spectacular fashion, curling a sublime effort beyond goalkeeper Kreidl just five minutes into the contest, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

After receiving a pass from Justin Devenny, Uche displayed brilliant footwork on the edge of the penalty area to beat his marker and create space. Instead of shooting with his stronger left foot, he chose finesse, bending a stunning strike with the outside of his right boot into the far top corner.

The goal handed Crystal Palace an ideal start on a night of huge importance. Uche later came close to doubling his tally but failed to hit the target despite being well positioned. Despite their early advantage, Palace were unable to find a decisive winner before the final whistle with the host racing into the lead at some point in the contest.

As a result, Palace concluded the league phase in 10th place, collecting ten points from six matches. That finish means they must now contest a two-legged play-off in February, which they will need to successfully navigate to reach the Round of 16.

Uche is expected to see increased minutes in the coming weeks, especially with several key players set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations. With ten starts required to make his loan move from Getafe permanent, the forward remains firmly in contention to secure his long-term future at the club.
