The Nigerian Flying Eagles have qualified for the semi final of the African Cup of Nations, U-20 championship after edging the Hippos of Uganda in the quarter final match played on Thursday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Junior Eagles who also secured a World Cup ticket to Indonesia in the process beat the Ugandans by a goal to nil courtesy of an won goal by Ibrahim Jumai after half an hour played in the contest.

The Nigerian team struggled to play as comfortable as they could be even after edging in terms of possession in the early part of the game.

However, Ibrahim Juma deflected Mohammed's effort off the goal post to the Hippos net to give the Flying Eagles the lead in Ismaila in the 30th minute.

The half ended with the Flying Eagles with the advantage as the teams moved into the dressing room.

The scoreline remained the same in the second phase as the Nigerian side held on to qualify to be the 18th team to make the World Cup berth.

The join Senegal U-20 team who progressed to the semi finals and secured the world cup ticket after beating Benin Republic by a goal to nil.

They qualify for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup taking place in Indonesia from May 20 - June 11, 2023.
