Two EFL League One clubs Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly battling to sign OGC Nice winger Deji Sotona in the summer transfer window.

Football Insider claims the Rams and Owls are plotting moves for the Republic of Ireland youth international of Nigerian descent after catching the eye of their talent spotters with his pace and goal threat.

Sotona is not a stranger to English football, having represented the youth teams of Manchester United from 2016 to 2020 and spent the second half of last season at Brentford B.

The Red Devils academy product turned down a contract extension at the Premier League giants before sealing a transfer to OGC Nice in 2020.

Although Sotona was signed for OGC Nice's first-team, he has yet to make his professional debut for the Eaglets, not helped by the fact that Patrick Vieira who convinced him to join the club departed as manager in December 2020.

The Irish-Nigerian is predominantly a winger who can also play through the middle if the need arises.

Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday are looking at the possibility of signing Sotona on loan.
