Olympiakos and Portugal defender Ruben Semedo was arrested yesterday by Greek police after a 17-year-old girl accused him of rape. She revealed today a judicial source.
The 27-year-old Portuguese was brought before a prosecutor in Athens to answer the accusations of a girl who said she was lured by Semedo to her home - along with a 40-year-old foreign national still wanted - and then to have been raped.
On Saturday, the player allegedly met the girl in a bar in the seaside resort of Oropos, then took her to his home, in Glyfalda, on the outskirts of Athens, where the same victim said she was raped.
According to Semedo's lawyer, Stavros Georgopoulos, the player "denies the accusation" and stated "that the complainant was 19 years old". The Portuguese has already been sentenced in 2018 to five years in prison for attempted murder, at the time he was playing for Villareal. Semedo avoided this sentence in exchange for banning entry into Spanish territory for eight years, by virtue of an agreement reached in 2020. He had also been fined 46,000 euros. Olympiakos, where Ruben Semedo has been playing for two years, have not communicated any decisions towards the player.
