"These young crop of players are only after their brand" - Mikel Obi
Former Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder and captain John Obi Mikel has hit out all young players revealing that all they are after is their brand as culled from his latest interview on the Obi One podcast, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.
The former Chelsea man spoke on varieties of subjects including the African black tax which has since rocked the internet across the continent as well as his exit from the London based club where he played a pivotal role as the club won the champions League in 2012 against Bayern Munich.
"One thing I don't like with the current generation, you look at the players now, it's like everyone is so focused on trying to build a brand", Obi said.
"Everyone wants a brand. It just takes away from the beauty of the game. I can understand everyone's trying to evolve. It's what the brands & fans want... you get better deals etc".
"It just changes the way we see the game, the way the game is played".
"Because back then when we had bad games, or criticized by our managers or coaches, we go back home, have a conversation with your parents, wife, brother sister, you talk and it ends there."
"We don't cry, and come out on social media and cry. You always see players coming out and voice their frustrations," he added.
