Super Eagles’ Crew To Land In Paris On May 23 Ahead of Friendlies
Coaches and backroom staff of the Super Eagles are billed to departure Abuja on the 23rd of this month ahead of the team’s international friendly against Mali four days later.
SportsDay gathered exclusively at the weekend that the Eagles’ crew will be joined by all backroom staff currently attached to the team, which would take the total number of travelling officials to 11.
Although details of the additional management staff from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the expected head of delegation for the trip were not readily available, it was learnt that the delegation will include four coaches and three medical staff, among others.
SportsDay was also reliably informed by a source close to the team that there is currently no plan in place to add any other home-based player to the list of invitees.
Speculation had been rife form the better part of last week that another player might be called up from the domestic league to make up for instances of injuries to a couple of foreign-based stars.
It was also speculated at a point that some of the overseas-based players are showing lukewarm responses to their invitations, thereby forewarning about mass boycott of both games in France against Mali and away to Luxemburg in their capital city three days later.
However, the inside source insisted in a telephone exchange with SportsDay that the possibility of another player being called up to join Sunshine Stars of Akure goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa on the flight to France come May 23 is very slim.
“The coach has already submitted his list of invitees for the game and I have not heard anything about any additional home-based player getting an invitational from the Nigerian league.
“The way it is, unless any unforeseen development comes up between now and May 23, only Ezenwa will travel with us from Abuja, but all the coaches and backroom staff of the Super Eagles will be on the flight,” he stated.
