Marcus Sorg, deputising for Joachim Low, said it felt strange to be in charge but was happy with Germany's win in Belarus.

Illness prevented Low taking his place in the dugout so Sorg stood in and saw his side win 2-0 to continue their perfect start to Euro 2020 qualifying.

We wanted to go to the opponent's goal by quickly winning the ball – and that's how we did it.

Goals from Leroy Sane and Marco Reus secured the three points and, after two games of their qualifying campaign, Germany are second in Group C with six points, behind Northern Ireland who have won their three matches so far.

Low will also be missing for Tuesday's home game against Estonia and Sorg said he felt strange in the dugout but happy to come away with a win.

He said: "It was essential to win – and we did it. It was important to me to overcome difficulties and win. It was important, that the boys had to go to their limit. It was an impressive performance.

"We had to deal with a deep-lying opponent, but overall it was totally fine. We wanted to go to the opponent's goal by quickly winning the ball – and that's how we did it."

Manchester City's Sane opened the scoring on Saturday, a good finish from close range and Reus sealed the win just after the hour mark though Belarus threatened and Manuel Neur did well in particular to keep out an Nikita Naumov header.

The result keeps Belarus bottom of Group C without a point after three games while Estonia are also yet to get off the mark having played two games so far.

Germany are 1/30 to win on Tuesday with Estonia 40/1 and the draw 13/1.

The Netherlands are also in the group, sitting third having lost to Germany when the teams met in Amsterdam earlier this year.

Germany are 2/7 to win Group C with the Netherlands 11/4 and Northern Ireland 20/1.
