Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood says Jordan Ayew is still settling in at Villa Park after his summer switch.

The striker, the youngster brother of Swansea star Andre, has failed to find the net since his £9million arrival from Lorient this summer, but changed the game as a second-half sub Tuesday night’s League Cup win over rivals Birmingham.

And Sherwood says his stellar showing came from a man still in the early stages of his Villa career.

"I thought Jordan was excellent. He played well," Sherwood said after the victory.

"We're only eight games into the season and it's been - and still is - a settling in period. We have always said that. It's the same with all the boys.

"But that will do Jordan the world of good. I am really delighted with him."
