Ex-Ghana defender Sammy Kuffuor has hit hard at the country's porous defense which succumbed to a painful 2-1 defeat to Senegal in their opening 2015 AFCON campaign.

Dreadful defending cost the Black Stars dear yet again on Monday as the Ghanaians slumped to defeat in Mongomo, underlining just how far the team is fallen down Africa football's pecking order.

The porous defense allowed the Terranga Lions to ship in two goals after going down 1-0 at half.

Ghana’s once vaunted defensive prowess has suddenly become an apology as debutant Daniel Amartey, Jonathan Mensah and Awal Mohammed failed to keep to the physical presence of the Senegalese.

The ex-Bayern Munich celebrated defender was left livid with how the Ghanaians allowed their opponent to toil with the defense.

"I was mad at our performance today especially in defence. We played too deep and you can't play a high tournament like that, it's a disaster in waiting and Senegal took full advantage," Kuffour said on SuperSports

"We should have been smart enough not to go too deep because our defenders were finding it difficult to deal with the pace of the Senegalese. But when you defend like that, you will get punished."

The Black Stars must now win their remaining two games against Algeria and South Africa to progress to the quarter-final.
