Mamadou Sakho is unlikely to play again this year after being told the knee injury he sustained against Crystal Palace will sideline him for two months.

The Liverpool defender has already withdrawn from the France squad that is preparing for friendlies with Germany and England in the next few days.

Sakho was forced to leave the pitch shortly before half-time on Sunday after falling awkwardly on his right knee following an aerial challenge.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had feared that the player had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury but a scan on Monday has shown that the problem is not too serious.

Sakho joins a lengthy injury list at Anfield, which includes the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Henderson, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez.

Klopp may be left with just two centre-back options for the clash with Manchester City following the international break - Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren - as Kolo Toure is currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

Liverpool, 1/1 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, are 1/1 to beat City on 21st November.

Meanwhile, Jordon Ibe hopes he will continue to improve under Klopp, who managed the likes of Robert Lewandowski during his time at Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the club in last week's 1-0 Europa League win over Rubin Kazan and has been one of the Reds' best players since Klopp was appointed last month.

"He obviously did a great job at Borussia Dortmund," said Ibe.

"The fact that the young players he brought in were a big part of the success is very encouraging for guys like me.

"Of course, those youngsters at Dortmund didn't just become a little bit better either. Some of them, like Robert Lewandowski, have become players who are operating at the highest level in the Champions League. Hopefully he can help me and some of the lads here do the same."
