Dean Smith’s Aston Villa are still interested in signing Todd Cantwell from Norwich City in the summer transfer window, according to The Express. It is being reported this morning that with Bertrand Traore picking up an injury against Liverpool in a friendly match on Sunday, Villa could now make a move for Norwich star Cantwell.
According to HITC, The Villans had initially looked at signing the 23-year-old attacking midfielder as a potential replacement for Jack Grealish, who left for Manchester City earlier this month.
Norwich value Cantwell at £40 million. Villa have already signed attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia, winger Leon Bailey and striker Danny Ings to replace Grealish.
Anything is possible when the transfer window is open, but it is hard to see Villa spend £40 million on yet another attacking player this summer, especially someone who is still only 23.
