Peterside Idah backs Eguavoen to stabilize Super Eagles
Peterside Idah, a former Nigerian international has expressed confidence in the ability of interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen to bring stability to the Super Eagles, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
Idah’s remarks come in the wake of Eguavoen’s recent tenure, during which Nigeria secured a 3-0 victory over Benin and played to a goalless draw against Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as reported by
In an interview with Channels TV, Idah voiced his support for Eguavoen, suggesting that the coach should be allowed to continue his role through the remainder of the Nations Cup qualifiers.
Idah acknowledged the ongoing debates regarding Eguavoen’s future, with discussions centered around whether to retain him or bring in a foreign coach. Despite the differing opinions, Idah believes that Eguavoen has begun to stabilize the team, as evidenced by their recent performances.
“I believe we should give Eguavoen the opportunity to complete his task,” Idah stated. “He has been with this team for a significant period, and his familiarity with the players and the system is invaluable. We faced challenges when we didn’t qualify for the World Cup against Ghana, but it’s important to remember that we didn’t lose that game. The disappointment stemmed from not qualifying, which fueled the criticism.”
Idah’s support highlights the growing confidence in Eguavoen’s ability to guide the Super Eagles through their current campaign. As the team continues its pursuit of the AFCON qualifiers, Eguavoen’s leadership remains a topic of significant interest and debate within Nigerian football circles.
