Paul Onuachu describes move to the Premier League as "childhood dream"
Paul Onuachu has finally made his 'dream' move to English Premier League side, Southampton from Belgium club, KRC Genk on transfer deadline day, Nigeirasoccernet.com can report.
The Super Eagles striker, completed his deal to Southampton from Genk for €18m plus €3 million bonuses on a 3 and half year deal after medicals.
The 28-year-old in an interview with Eleven Sport discloses that he is happy to play in the Premier League even though it was a though decision to leave Genk.
"I am happy to of course fulfil my childhood dream to play in the Prem,. But you know it is a difficult decision, a difficult situation and it's so emotional with everything I have achieved with Genk; the players, the coaches it is very emotional situation," He said.
Onuachu also further states why he chose to go Southampton.
"It is an opportunity, it is the best league in the world. It is every player's dream to play there . I think that is most of the reason why I want to try there because it is the best league in the world to try something new. A lot of transfers have passed, I think this the best chance for me to grab the opportunity."
Asked if he has come to rescue the team that is battling relegation, Onuachu states that he and the team will give their best to ensure the Saints stay in the league.
"Of course they bought me for a purpose and I'm going to really try to give my best and show my purpose of them buying me, but of course you know it is a whole team game not just one person's game and I t think the team as a whole will fight to stay in the league"
He will join the Southampton team in two days time as he sorts his visa issues and other paperwork.
Onuachu leaves the Belgium league where he has excelled becoming the top scorer in the 2021/2022 season with 22 goals and currently leads the goal scorer's chart for the 2022/2023 seaaon with 16 goals after 18 matches.
