Joined Tranzonspor on loan from Southampton during the 2023/2024 season, Paul Onuachu was expected to return permanently to the Turkish club before the close of the transfer window, however, lack of transfer agreement between the Black Sea Storm and the Saints have left the player's future in disarray especially after deemed surplus to requirements in the English club.

Reported to be moving closer to returning to Turkey earlier, both Tranzonspor and Southampton failed to reach an agreement on the transfer fee for the player, leaving him with no league actions since the start of the European league season.

Although included in Southamtop's 25-man squad for the 2024/25 Premier League season, Paul Onuachu missed his sixth consecutive game in all competitions in the new season on Tuesday night as Southampton defeated Everton 6-5 on penalties in the EFL Cup, raising questions about how much game time he will be afforded by Martin.

In an interview with BBC Sports after the win against Everton, Southampton boss Russel Martin said the door isn't shut for the Nigerian to return to the squad.

Onuachu hasn't featured for the Saints since coming off the bench in a 3-1 loss to Gillingham in August 2023.

Meanwhile, as Tranzonspor's struggle to get a win continues, another Nigerian Anthony Nwakaeme bagged an assist in the club's latest draw on Thursday evening.  Falling two goals behind, Tranzonspor scored two late goals (89'; 90+8') to preserve their unbeaten and at the same time winless run to the season, one of which was assisted by Anthony Nwakaeme.

Nwakaeme who played for Tranzonspor between 2018 and 2022 returned to the club in June from Saudi Arabia side Al-Fayha. He scored 41 goals in 120 appearances in his first stint with the club.

With Tranzonspor's failure to get Onuachu (15 goals in 21 appearances) back into the squad before the September 13 Turkish Süper Lig deadline date, the club will now count on his countryman Nwakaeme as they continue their chase for their first league win of the season when they visit Gaziantep on Monday.
