Delta Queens are showing signs that they are indeed title contenders in the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women's Football League, NWFL Premiership after making a huge statement by beating defending champions, Bayelsa United on Wednesday.

The Queens from Delta were 2-1 winners at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa against Bayelsa Queens to consolidate their place at the top of group A standing of the league.

It was Chinaza Agoh who struck late to hand the visitors a crucial win that could turn out crucial for Delta Queens' stake at the title at the end of the season.

Agoh had opened score in 51th minute after a barren first half, but Chinyere Igboamalu's effort for the hosts cancelled the goal for the visitors in the South-South derby in the 55th minute.

However, Agoh made sure the Deltans go home with all points after her 90 and one minute added time goal.

The result means Bayelsa Queens have been handed their first league defeat and are now 5 points adrift of the group leaders after six matches.
