Nuno keen to see Wolves bite
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says there was plenty to improve upon from Thursday's 2-0 win over Crusaders in the Europa League.
Wanderers were making their return to European football following a 39-year absence and enjoyed a comfortable night as goals from Diogo Jota and Ruben Vinagre were enough to give them a first leg advantage in the second qualifying round tie.
However, the Premier League side should have probably carved out a bigger lead for themselves having completely dominated their Northern Irish opponents, Morgan Gibbs-White, Jota and Raul Jimenez all missing good opportunities.
Had it not been for a mistake by Crusaders goalkeeper Sean O'Neill in stoppage time to gift Vinagre his goal, Wolves would not have grabbed a second with the visitors doing a good job of stifling their opponents.
Nuno says he has happy with the results given the sweltering conditions and Crusaders’ defensive mindset but admits he spotted plenty of areas that will need to be improved upon going forward in the 2019/20 season.
“It (a second goal) makes a difference, no doubt, but we have to look at the game and what moment we are in,” said Nuno.
“Crusaders are well organised, they were deep and there was no space but we need to be faster, more accurate and sharper. All these things will come with hard work.
“It was tough, the players did a fantastic job. It was very hot and the idea of the game was there. I am proud of them.
“We cannot be frustrated. With set-pieces we must improve, we touched the ball but didn’t have enough chances.”
Wolves are 20/1 to win this season's Europa League but still have a long way to go just to reach the group stages with the return leg at Seaview next week, followed by two more rounds of qualifying if they see off Crusaders.
Nuno's men are 7/2 to finish in the top six in the Premier League.
