Nuno Espirito: Awoniyi still building fitness despite scoring streak
Nottingham Forest's manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, has acknowledged that Taiwo Awoniyi is still not at full fitness despite his impressive scoring streak, Nigeriasoccernet.com report.
Awoniyi, the Nigerian international, made his comeback for Forest in January after a three-month hiatus due to a groin injury.
Despite this setback, he managed to score the opening goal in Forest’s 2-0 home victory against West Ham United at the City Ground on Saturday, marking his second goal since his return.
The goal tallied six goals in 14 league appearances for Nottingham Forest this season.
Santo hinted at the importance of carefully managing the 26-year-old's fitness for the rest of the campaign, emphasizing that strikers are not only about scoring but also about their overall contribution to the game.
"We know he's struggling in terms of fitness, it's up to us to manage him," Santo told BBC Sport.
