NPFL Update: Fidelis Ilechukwu Describes Lobi’s Win Unfortunate
Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu of Lagos-based MFM FC has described its 0-1 loss to Lobi Stars of Markurdi in the Match Day 15 of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as “unfortunate’’. The match was played on Sunday at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, Benue.
Ilechukwu told NAN on Monday in Lagos that the narrow lost at the away-match was an indication that the team was strong and determined. MFM FC coach said that his team had put up a spirited fight in ensuring at least a draw in the encounter but was denied by an own goal.
“It was Monsuru Bashiru who flicked the ball into his goal post just as goalkeeper, James Aiyeyemi, made a touch-line save but the referee adjudged it a goal. “We rather lost in an unfortunate circumstance, because the game would have ended in a draw, nevertheless, we are looking forward to our next match at home.
“We were forced to make the first change in the first half of the match of our defensive midfielder, Paul Atu Irumekhai, when he was injured and had to be replaced by Alashe Sheriff.
“We were resilient and the players gave a good account of themselves as they were able to absolve the pressures from Godwin Uwua’s men,’’ he said.
MFM FC attackers returned to action as the injured Newman Musa teamed-up with Sikiru Olatunbosun and teenage striker, Stephen Odey, but they were unable to hit the net. Olukoya Boys are, still, maintaining their 8th position on the log with 22 points from 15 NPFL matches.
The club garnered its 22 points from six wins, four draws and four loses. (NAN)
