NPFL Preview: Loss to Zamalek won’t affect us against Abia – Osadiaye
ENYIMBA striker, Joseph Osadiaye has said his side’s CAF Champions League loss to Egyptian giants, Zamalek SC will count for nothing in top-flight clash against sister side, Abia Warriors.
The Nigerian champions started their Champions League group campaign poorly losing 0-1 to the North African side in Port Harcourt last Sunday but will confront the capital city rivals, Warriors in today’s NPFL rescheduled matchday 12 oriental clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt. Osadiaye said the ‘brotherly fight’ will be interesting and tough but his side will emerge victorious at the end of football hostilities.
“Yea, the clash will involve two brothers in a healthy war and I think 90 minutes will decide the winners. “However, we are the big brother of the two and we will like to prove it on the field of play by emerging victorious at the end of the day.
“Of course, the CAF Champions League loss to Zamalek of Egypt on Sunday in Port Harcourt will have no negative bearing on the outcome of the league clash against Abia Warriors. “We may have lost the match opener to the Egyptian side but that does not mean they were better, I think they were damn lucky.
“We played quite well in defeat but we will focus on winning against Warriors to restore some level of confidence in ourselves before we head off to Pretoria, South Africa to confront Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League matchday 2 clash,” said the former Warri Wolves marksman.
The two-time African champions are ninth on the top-flight on 31 points 10 behind league leaders, Wikki Tourists with a game to spare against Sunshine Stars.
